Our Story
FARMYARN is a family owned and operated business based in Seattle, WA, with additional warehousing and satellite offices in Dallas, NC and Manchester, NH.
Siblings Nathan and Christina grew up in the beautiful Skagit Valley, an agricultural community located in north-western Washington State. Summer vacations were spent working in the fields alongside classmates and friends. Old school buses jostled the community's adolescents out to various fields at 6am to get to work, make "big bucks" and, of course, engage in much teen socializing! |
In college, Nathan found an interest in global logistics and international trade - working in various companies domestically and internationally. He founded his own textile trading company soon after and began trading in stock lots and waste textiles, culminating in what is today Worldwise-Globaltex, now a leading exporter of stock lots shipping to over 85 countries. Meanwhile, Christina had a more meandering career path, ultimately transplanting her in New York City, where, out of need of a job and a brother with contacts, she began assisting in a textile import and design company. Soon the work led to project management with international mills and then into product development and private label import. Diana, Nathan’s wife, grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, helping to run the family textile business and opening a high-end menswear design company. Upon moving to the USA, Diana headed the Latin & South American division of Worldwise, expanding sales and purchasing there.

In 2018, Nathan came to Christina & Diana with an idea. Choosing to focus on waste reduction and global sustainability within the world of textiles, Worldwise had begun increasing its presence in the international market for waste textiles - buying excesses and unusable goods from mills and repurposing them into usable product. One such good was textile selvages. After researching and consulting with various entities, the threesome soon began to realize the potential for repurposing these selvages into a functional, sustainable cord for agriculture.
And FARMYARN was born! Soon the siblings found themselves venturing back to the (literal) fields of their youth. Joined by Mom, spouses, and the helping hands of littles, Nathan, Christina & Diana have grown FARMYARN into a national brand, promoting the use of ecological and sustainable alternatives to plastics and one-time use products for commercial agriculture and home gardens alike.

The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 and the wild fires in California and Oregon necessitated changes within the business. The raw materials for mask-making were becoming scarce and FARMYARN became in high demand as a better alternative to traditional elastic for ear loops. Realizing an opportunity, FARMYARN opened an online retail store offering small packs to crafters and sewers as well as the home gardener. FARMYARN is now quickly becoming a popular craft product as a sustainable and ecological alternative to t-shirt yarns, bias tapes and more!
